How the rounding model handles edge cases
Exact tenths, such as 7.3, remain 7.3 because the implied hundredths digit is zero. Values just below a boundary, such as 2.44, become 2.4; values at or above the midpoint, such as 2.45, become 2.5. For negative halfway values, this calculator uses the symmetric “half away from zero” convention: – 2.45 becomes – 2.5. That convention avoids JavaScript's asymmetric native tie behavior and makes the digit rule consistent on both sides of zero.
