How to use the Wage to Salary Calculator

What this calculator does

This calculator converts an hourly wage into daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly gross-pay estimates using your normal work schedule. It is useful for comparing jobs that quote pay in different periods, checking the annual effect of a raise, estimating a budget baseline, or translating part-time hours into an annual figure. It does not calculate take-home pay, overtime premiums, payroll taxes, commissions, bonuses, employer benefits, or unpaid absences beyond the number of paid weeks you enter.

How to calculate

  1. Start with the ready-to-use example: $25.00 per hour, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, and 52 paid weeks per year. The results and example XLSX workbook are available immediately.
  2. Replace Hourly wage with your gross hourly rate. Use a period for decimals, such as 27.50.
  3. Enter Hours worked per day and Days worked per week for your regular schedule.
  4. Set Paid weeks per year. Keep 52 when every week is paid; reduce it when seasonal work or unpaid leave removes paid weeks.
  5. Read the live salary estimate and pay-period table, then select Download Excel for a current-state workbook. Reset clears the demonstration and may disable export until all required fields are complete again.

Input guide

Hourly wage is required, in U.S. dollars per hour, from $0.01 to $1,000,000. A realistic entry is 25.00. Raising it increases every pay result proportionally. Do not enter a dollar sign, commas, scientific notation, or a decimal comma. Hours worked per day is required and accepts a positive decimal no greater than 24; 8 is a common full-time example. It controls daily and all longer-period estimates. Do not include unpaid break time unless you are paid for it. Days worked per week is required and accepts a positive decimal up to 7; 5 is typical. It changes weekly hours and therefore weekly, monthly, and yearly pay. Paid weeks per year is required and accepts a positive decimal up to 53; 52 models a continuously paid year. A lower value reduces annual and monthly estimates while leaving hourly, daily, and weekly values unchanged.

Output guide

Yearly salary is the primary annualized gross-pay estimate. Monthly salary equals yearly salary divided by 12, so it is an average rather than a prediction of each paycheck. Weekly wage equals hourly wage multiplied by hours per week. Daily wage equals hourly wage multiplied by hours per day. Hours per week is the schedule product of hours per day and days per week. The summary pills repeat hours per week, paid weeks per year, and gross annual pay for quick scanning. The Pay period conversion table shows each period's amount and the basis used. These outputs are mathematical estimates of gross regular pay; zero is not accepted because every required input must be positive.

Worked example

With a $25.00 hourly wage, 8 hours per day, and 5 days per week, the schedule is 8 × 5 = 40 hours per week. Weekly wage is $25.00 × 40 = $1,000.00. At 52 paid weeks, yearly salary is $1,000.00 × 52 = $52,000.00. Monthly salary is $52,000.00 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33. Those values match the first-open controls, result cards, table, and workbook.

For context, the U.S. Department of Labor explains that the federal minimum wage is an hourly standard and that overtime rules may change actual pay for covered workers; review its minimum wage guidance and overtime guidance when those rules apply. The IRS also distinguishes gross pay from taxable wages and withholding in its Employer's Tax Guide.

Formula and interpretation

Hours per week = hours per day × days per week
Weekly wage = hourly wage × hours per week
Yearly salary = weekly wage × paid weeks per year
Monthly salary = yearly salary ÷ 12

Because the model is proportional, a 10% increase in hourly wage produces a 10% increase in each pay amount when the schedule is unchanged. Reducing paid weeks changes yearly and monthly pay but not the pay earned in one normal day or week. For irregular schedules, use representative averages rather than the single busiest or slowest week. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes compensation measures and wage data that can help benchmark an offer; see its wage data resources.
