How to use the Salary Calculator
What this calculator does
This calculator converts a known gross pay amount into equivalent pay figures across common time periods. It is designed for comparing job offers, translating an hourly wage into an annual salary, checking whether payroll figures are internally consistent, and planning a gross-income budget. It does not calculate net or take-home pay, taxes, overtime premiums, commissions, benefits, unpaid breaks, or legal entitlement to compensation.
When to use it
Use it when one employer quotes an hourly rate and another quotes an annual salary; when a monthly or biweekly paycheck needs to be translated into a yearly figure; when a contractor wants a simple time-basis comparison; or when a household budget needs a consistent monthly gross-income estimate.
How to calculate
- The calculator opens with a ready-to-use demonstration: $30 per hour, 40 hours per week, 5 workdays per week, and 52 working weeks per year. Its example Excel workbook is immediately available.

Input guide
Known pay amount is required currency input in U.S. dollars. It accepts ordinary U.S. decimal notation such as 30, 1,250.50, or $1,250.50; ambiguous decimal-comma and scientific notation are rejected. It must be greater than zero. A higher amount raises every equivalent proportionally.
Known pay period is required and tells the model whether the amount is hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, or annual. Choosing the wrong period is the most consequential interpretation error.
Hours per week is required, accepts a decimal from above 0 through 168, and controls hourly conversions. Example: 40. Lower hours with the same annual pay produce a higher hourly equivalent.
Workdays per week is required, accepts a decimal from above 0 through 7, and controls daily conversions. Example: 5. It does not assert that every week actually contains that many paid days.
Working weeks per year is required, accepts a decimal from above 0 through 52, and defaults to 52. Use fewer weeks only when the known amount should be annualized over fewer paid or worked weeks. The standard full-year convention of 52 weeks is also used in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics earnings methodology for many weekly-to-annual comparisons.
Output guide
Annual salary equivalent is the canonical gross yearly value. Hourly wage, Daily pay, Weekly pay, and Monthly pay are exact time-basis conversions driven by that annual value and the work schedule. The header pills repeat the annual, monthly, and hourly values for quick scanning. The Pay conversion table adds periods per year and states each basis. A zero or negative output is never shown because the underlying pay amount must be positive.
Worked example
At $30 per hour, 40 hours per week, and 52 weeks per year, annual pay is $30 × 40 × 52 = $62,400.00. With 5 workdays per week, daily hours are 40 ÷ 5 = 8, so daily pay is $240.00. Weekly pay is $1,200.00, biweekly pay is $2,400.00, semi-monthly pay is $2,600.00, and monthly pay is $5,200.00.
How the conversion model works
The calculator first normalizes the entered amount to one annual gross-pay value. Hourly pay is multiplied by weekly hours and working weeks; daily pay is multiplied by workdays and weeks; weekly and biweekly values are annualized by their frequency; monthly, semi-monthly, and quarterly values use 12, 24, and 4 periods per year. Every displayed result and workbook cell is then derived from the same annual value.
Monthly = annual ÷ 12
Biweekly = annual ÷ (weeks per year ÷ 2)
Daily = annual ÷ (workdays per week × weeks per year)
Interpret results with care
Gross salary is not take-home pay. Payroll deductions, income taxes, Social Security and Medicare withholding, retirement contributions, health insurance, and local rules can materially reduce the amount deposited.
