How to use the ounce to kilogram converter

What this calculator does

This calculator converts a mass entered in ordinary avoirdupois ounces into kilograms. It also shows the equivalent number of grams and pounds, then builds a nearby comparison table. The conversion is an exact unit identity based on the international avoirdupois ounce: one ounce equals exactly 28.349523125 grams, or 0.028349523125 kilograms. It is suitable for recipes, parcel weights, product specifications, exercise equipment, and general measurement work. It does not convert fluid ounces, which measure volume, and it does not use the troy ounce used for precious metals.

When to use it

Use the converter when a package label lists ounces but a shipping form requests kilograms, when a recipe or nutrition record must be expressed in metric mass, when comparing a U.S. product specification with an SI specification, or when checking whether a known pound-and-ounce quantity has been entered correctly.

How to calculate

Input guide

Ounces is the only required input. Enter a plain non-negative decimal number in avoirdupois ounces, for example 16, 2.5, or 0.125. Commas, scientific notation, unit words, negative values, blank input, and nonnumeric text are rejected rather than silently reinterpreted. Increasing the ounce value increases every output in direct proportion. A common mistake is entering a fluid-ounce volume or a troy-ounce precious-metal weight; those units use different definitions and should not be converted with this calculator.

Output guide

Kilograms is the exact converted mass in kg and is driven only by the ounce input. Grams expresses the same mass in g and is useful when the kilogram number is below one. Pounds divides ounces by 16 and provides an independent-looking but mathematically equivalent imperial check. A zero input produces zero in every result. Larger values are not estimates; they remain exact unit conversions, although the screen rounds only for readable presentation. The table columns repeat these same identities for five scaled ounce quantities.

Worked example

The first-open example uses 16 oz. Multiply 16 by 0.028349523125 kg/oz to obtain 0.45359237 kg. Multiplying by 28.349523125 gives 453.59237 g, while dividing by 16 gives exactly 1 lb. These are the same values shown in the results panel, table, and startup Excel workbook.
