Increasing MPa increases psi in direct proportion. Pounds-force per square inch is the corresponding required non-negative decimal in psi and follows the same accepted-format rules. Worked example. With the opening value of 10 MPa, multiply by 145.03773773 psi per MPa: 10 × 145.03773773 = 1,450.3773773 psi, displayed as 1,450.377377 psi. The same pressure is 10,000 kPa or 10,000,000 Pa. In reverse, dividing 1,450.3773773 psi by 145.03773773 returns 10 MPa, apart from harmless display rounding.

Formula and interpretation
The pascal is one newton per square metre. A megapascal is one million pascals. PSI means pound-force per square inch. Using the exact definitions of the pound-force and inch gives 1 psi = 6,894.757293168 Pa, so 1 MPa = 145.03773773020923 psi. For practical display, this calculator shows up to nine decimal places while retaining higher precision in the model and Excel workbook.
Pressure and normal stress share the same dimensions, which is why the same conversion is used for gauge ratings and material properties. Their physical meaning is still different: a pressure value describes force distributed over an area, while a material-strength value may represent yield strength, tensile strength, or another test criterion.
