It supports three definitions because “fluid ounce” is not a single universal size: the U.S. customary fluid ounce, the Imperial fluid ounce used in the United Kingdom, and the rounded 30 mL fluid ounce used for U.S. food-label household measures. The result is an exact unit conversion within the chosen definition; it does not estimate mass, density, container capacity, or how much product remains in a package.
When to use it. Use the converter when adapting a drink or cooking recipe, checking a bottle or measuring-cup scale, translating laboratory or product volume notes, or comparing a metric package size with a fluid-ounce label. For precision work, confirm which fluid-ounce standard the source intended before using the number.

Input guide. Volume in milliliters is required, measured in mL, and accepts zero or a positive finite decimal. A realistic value is 250 mL. Increasing this input increases every ounce result proportionally; doubling milliliters doubles fluid ounces. Do not enter a mass in grams, a mixed unit such as “250 ml,” a decimal comma such as “1,5,” or scientific notation. Fluid-ounce standard is required and selected from a fixed list. Formula and interpretation
fluid ounces = milliliters ÷ milliliters per fluid ounce
The relationship is linear, so there is no threshold or compounding effect. Zero milliliters converts to zero fluid ounces. Very large finite values are accepted only while the derived result remains finite. The U.S. customary fluid ounce is about 4.08% larger than the Imperial fluid ounce, which means the same milliliter volume produces fewer U.S. fluid ounces than Imperial fluid ounces. The food-label option is intentionally rounded for labeling practice rather than being a replacement for the exact customary definition.
Common mistakes
- Do not confuse fluid ounces, a unit of volume, with ounces, a unit of mass or weight.
- Do not assume a package's nominal fluid-ounce label is its usable or overflow capacity.
- Keep more digits for technical work; rounding too early can accumulate error across batches.
