Why mL and cc are equal

A liter is the special name for one cubic decimeter. One milliliter is one-thousandth of a liter, while one cubic centimeter is one-thousandth of a cubic decimeter. These definitions lead to the same volume: 1 mL = 1 cm³. The abbreviation cc is widely understood in practical settings, but cm³ is the clearer standards-based symbol in scientific and engineering documents.
