It uses an average Gregorian year of 365.25 days, so one year equals 525,960 minutes. That convention is useful for consistent scientific, administrative, and long-duration comparisons. It is not a calendar-date calculator: it does not count the exact number of days between two named dates, and it does not adjust for the particular sequence of leap years crossed by a real-world interval.
When to use it. Use the calculator to translate machine-runtime logs into years, compare long project or service durations, estimate how many years are represented by a very large minute count, or prepare a clear unit-conversion record for a report. It is also useful for checking reverse calculations: multiply the displayed years by 525,960 to recover the original minute value within rounding tolerance.

Formula and interpretation
The core equation is years = minutes ÷ 525,960. Other units are derived directly: months use 43,830 minutes per average month, weeks use 10,080 minutes, days use 1,440 minutes, hours use 60 minutes, and seconds multiply minutes by 60. Because the operation is linear, doubling the minute input doubles every displayed result. This also provides a useful consistency check for copied values.
Decimal years are best interpreted as standardized elapsed time, not as a promise that the same decimal fraction will land on an identical calendar date. For exact date planning, use a date-difference method that knows the start date, end date, month lengths, leap-year rules, and time-zone treatment. For unit conversion and data normalization, the average-year convention is stable and reproducible.
