How to use the Greek gematria calculator
What this calculator does. This tool applies Greek isopsephy: each recognized Greek letter has a fixed numerical value, and the score is the sum of those values. It accepts ordinary Greek letters, the three archaic numeral letters stigma, koppa, and sampi, accented Greek text, and a practical Latin transliteration map. It does not translate meaning, establish historical intent, or prove a relationship between phrases; it performs an exact arithmetic identity under the displayed mapping.
When to use it. Use it to verify a hand calculation, compare the numerical totals of Greek names or phrases, inspect how each letter contributes, or prepare a reproducible spreadsheet record for study. It is also useful when a source prints an isopsephic claim and you want to audit every term rather than trust a single final number.
How to calculate. The calculator opens with the demonstration text νευραλινκ, whose score is 666, and the Excel export is ready immediately. Follow these steps:
- Replace the sample in Text to evaluate with a Greek word, phrase, sentence, or supported Latin transliteration.
- Read Greek gematria score for the sum, then check Recognized letters, Ignored characters, and Highest letter value to understand the input quality and range.
- Use Normalized recognized sequence to see the accent-free mapped letters actually used in the arithmetic.
- Audit the Letter-by-letter breakdown: Position is the order among recognized letters; Input is the typed character; Normalized letter is the mapped Greek form; Value is the fixed isopsephy value; Running total is the cumulative sum through that row.

Input guide. Text to evaluate is required text, not a number. You may paste Greek in uppercase or lowercase, including tonos and other combining accents; the calculator normalizes accented forms before scoring. Spaces and punctuation are permitted but do not add value. A realistic input is Καλημέρα, which normalizes to καλημερα and totals 205. Latin letters use the reference-style equivalents: for example B and V map to beta, C and K to kappa, U and Y to upsilon, and H to chi. The most common mistake is assuming transliteration is linguistic translation: Latin mapping is character substitution, so different romanization conventions can produce different scores.
Output guide. Greek gematria score is an exact integer sum for the recognized sequence; zero means no scorable letter was supplied. Recognized letters counts mapped characters, while Ignored characters flags content that did not enter the sum. Highest letter value shows the largest single contribution and is zero only in the empty state. The normalized sequence is an audit aid, not a translation. The breakdown table is exact and uses the same canonical values as the on-screen total and workbook.
Worked example. For the startup text νευραλινκ, the contributions are ν=50, ε=5, υ=400, ρ=100, α=1, λ=30, ι=10, ν=50, and κ=20. Adding them gives 50 + 5 + 400 + 100 + 1 + 30 + 10 + 50 + 20 = 666. Nine letters are recognized, none are ignored, and upsilon supplies the highest value, 400.

How the value system works
The sequence uses units, tens, and hundreds. Alpha through theta represent 1 – 9, iota through koppa represent 10 – 90, and rho through sampi represent 100 – 900. Stigma (ϛ), koppa (ϟ), and sampi (ϡ) keep the three nine-letter groups complete even though they are not ordinary letters of the modern 24-letter alphabet.

Normalization and interpretation
Accents are removed so ά and α receive the same value. Final sigma ς is treated as sigma σ, and uppercase letters are folded to lowercase. This is a computational convenience consistent with letter identity; it does not erase the importance of accents in Greek spelling or pronunciation.
Compare phrases cautiously. Equal totals are mathematically interesting but do not, by themselves, demonstrate authorship, chronology, symbolism, or causation. Treat a match as a prompt for textual and historical investigation, not as standalone evidence.
