How to use the feet to miles converter

What this calculator does. This converter expresses one linear distance in feet, miles, meters, and kilometers. It uses the exact international relationship of 5,280 feet in one mile and 0.3048 meter in one international foot. It is useful for unit conversion, not for measuring a route, estimating travel time, or deciding how far a person can safely walk or drive.

When to use it. Use it when a site plan, property description, running route, aviation note, construction drawing, or engineering document gives a distance in feet but you need miles. It also works in reverse when a road distance is stated in miles and a drawing or field layout requires feet.

Input guide. Distance in feet is a required nonnegative decimal measured in feet. It accepts plain decimal notation such as 360, 5280, or 10560.5; use a period for decimals and do not use scientific notation, unit letters, or a decimal comma. A higher value increases every converted result proportionally. Distance in miles is the corresponding required nonnegative decimal in miles. Entering 2 produces 10,560 feet. Editing either field makes that field the source and updates the other, so avoid trying to enter two unrelated distances at once.

Output guide. Distance in miles and Distance in feet are exact unit identities apart from display rounding. Distance in meters uses 0.3048 meter per international foot, while Distance in kilometers divides meters by 1,000. A zero input produces zero in every unit. Very small positive distances remain positive and may display with additional decimals. The pills repeat the current feet and miles values for quick scanning. Worked example. The startup example uses 5,280 feet. Dividing by 5,280 gives exactly 1 mile. Multiplying 5,280 by 0.3048 gives 1,609.344 meters, and dividing that by 1,000 gives 1.609344 kilometers. Those are the same values shown in the first-open result cards and written to the workbook.
