What this calculator does
This calculator converts a duration between days and weeks using the exact relationship that one week contains seven days. It also expresses the same duration in years, average Gregorian months, hours, minutes, seconds, and a practical “whole weeks + days” form. It is useful for comparing durations, but it does not determine business days, holidays, calendar dates, deadlines, or elapsed time across daylight-saving transitions.
When to use it
Use it when translating a project estimate written in days into a weekly plan, comparing travel or training schedules, interpreting a medical or administrative waiting period, or checking how many complete weeks and leftover days fit inside a duration. For standards context, the NIST explanation of SI time units describes the second as the base unit from which larger time units are related.

Input guide
Days is a required non-negative number of 24-hour days. Enter plain digits with an optional decimal point, such as 90 or 10.5. Commas, scientific notation, words, and negative values are rejected to prevent ambiguous interpretation. Increasing Days increases every output proportionally. A common mistake is entering a calendar date or assuming the field excludes weekends; it represents elapsed days, not workdays.
Weeks is a required non-negative number of seven-day weeks. Decimal values are allowed, such as 1.5 weeks, which equals 10.5 days. Editing Weeks recalculates Days. A common mistake is treating a month as exactly four weeks; calendar months vary in length, so the Months output uses an average Gregorian month only as a comparison.
Output guide
Equivalent time is the exact days-to-weeks identity. Years uses 365.2425 days per average Gregorian year, while Months divides that year by 12. These are comparison estimates rather than calendar-date calculations. Hours, Minutes, and Seconds are exact arithmetic conversions based on 24 hours per day, 60 minutes per hour, and 60 seconds per minute; the BIPM SI Brochure provides the international measurement-system background. Whole weeks + days separates the duration into complete seven-day blocks and the remaining days. Zero means a zero-length duration, and larger values scale linearly.
Worked example
For the startup value of 56 days, divide by seven: 56 ÷ 7 = 8 weeks. The same duration is 56 × 24 = 1,344 hours, 1,344 × 60 = 80,640 minutes, and 80,640 × 60 = 4,838,400 seconds. Because 56 is divisible by seven, the remainder is zero, so the practical form is 8 weeks, 0 days. The Excel workbook uses these same canonical values rather than rounded text copied from the page.
Formula and interpretation
weeks = days ÷ 7 | days = weeks × 7
The conversion is linear, so doubling the number of days doubles the number of weeks. Fractions are valid: half a week is 3.5 days, and 13 days is approximately 1.857143 weeks. When the result is used for a real calendar deadline, apply the converted duration to an actual start date and account separately for time zones, daylight-saving changes, weekends, and holidays. The ISO overview of date and time formats is useful when recording dates unambiguously.
Why months and years are estimates
Days, weeks, hours, minutes, and seconds have fixed arithmetic relationships in this calculator. Months do not: a civil month can contain 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. The displayed month value therefore uses the average Gregorian year of 365.2425 days divided by 12, or about 30.436875 days per month. This makes the value suitable for broad comparison, not for determining the exact date after a number of months.
