What this calculator does
This calculator converts one pressure value between bar and pounds per square inch (psi). It is designed for fast unit translation when specifications, gauges, manuals, or test records use different pressure units. The result is a mathematical unit identity, not a recommendation for tire inflation, vessel operation, regulator settings, medical equipment, or any other safety-critical task. Input guide
Pressure value is required. It accepts a finite number from 0 through 1,000,000,000 using a period as the decimal separator. Example: 32.5. Raising the value raises the converted result proportionally. A common mistake is typing “32,5”, “32 bar”, or “1e3”; these formats are deliberately rejected rather than silently reinterpreted. Zero is valid and converts exactly to zero.
Input pressure unit is required and identifies the unit attached to Pressure value. Choose bar when the source reading is metric-style bar, or psi when the source reading is pounds-force per square inch. Changing this control changes the calculation direction without changing the typed numeric magnitude. Do not use it to indicate gauge versus absolute pressure; bar(g), bar(a), psig, and psia describe reference conditions, while this calculator only converts unit magnitude.
Convert to is required and shows the destination unit. It is kept opposite to the input unit. The conversion is reversible, so converting a value to the other unit and back returns the original value apart from display rounding.
Output guide
Pressure in psi or Pressure in bar is the primary converted value, shown to four decimal places. Input pressure repeats the validated source value and unit. Formula and interpretation
One bar is exactly 100,000 pascals. One pound-force per square inch is approximately 6,894.757293168 pascals. Dividing these definitions gives 1 bar = 14.5037737738 psi. Therefore, bar to psi uses multiplication by 14.5037737738, while psi to bar uses division by the same factor. Because this relationship is linear, doubling the source pressure doubles the converted pressure.
Unit conversion does not change the physical pressure; it only changes the numerical label used to describe it. Also distinguish pressure units from pressure references. Gauge pressure is measured relative to local atmospheric pressure, while absolute pressure is measured relative to vacuum. A numerical unit conversion alone does not add or subtract atmospheric pressure.
