How to use the acres to hectares calculator
What this calculator does. This tool converts the same land area between acres and hectares. It is useful when a property listing, farm record, planning document, map, or research source uses one system while your work uses the other. It also supplies equivalent square meters, square feet, and square kilometers for context. The result is a unit conversion, not a survey, valuation, zoning determination, or statement of legal parcel boundaries.
When to use it. Use it to compare rural property listings across countries, translate agricultural acreage into metric reporting, prepare land-area figures for engineering or environmental documents, or check classroom and geography exercises. The hectare is a metric area unit equal to 10,000 square meters; NIST explains this relationship in its SI units guide for area.

Input guide. Acres accepts a required non-negative decimal, written with a period as the decimal separator, such as 25 or 12.5. The abbreviation is ac. Increasing acres increases every equivalent area in direct proportion. Do not enter commas as decimal separators, scientific notation, negative numbers, unit words, or mixed text. Hectares follows the same format and restrictions, with ha as the unit. It can be used as the active input instead of Acres. For example, entering 4 hectares produces about 9.884215259 acres. Because both controls represent the same physical area, editing one replaces the other rather than adding two separate quantities.
Output guide. Converted area states the acres-to-hectares identity for the current value. Square meters is the metric base-area equivalent and is driven by hectares × 10,000. Square feet is driven by acres × 43,560. Square kilometers is hectares ÷ 100. A zero input correctly produces zero in every output. Larger values remain exact in the model, although the screen limits decimal places for readability. The three header pills document the acre-to-hectare factor, its inverse, and the display policy. Worked example. The startup example uses 25 acres. Multiply 25 by the exact factor 0.40468564224: 25 × 0.40468564224 = 10.117141056 hectares. The same area is 101,171.41056 square meters because one hectare is 10,000 square meters. It is also 1,089,000 square feet because one international acre equals exactly 43,560 square feet. These values match the first rendered results and the startup workbook.
Formula and precision

The exact factor follows the international acre definition. The current NIST Handbook 44 table records that one acre equals exactly 43,560 square feet and 0.40468564224 hectare. For quick mental estimates, 1 acre is about 0.405 hectare and 1 hectare is about 2.47 acres, but formal reporting should retain enough significant digits for the source data.
Interpreting land-area conversions
A conversion preserves area; it does not create greater measurement accuracy than the original figure. If a deed or map says 25 acres only to the nearest acre, displaying many decimal places in hectares does not imply that the parcel was surveyed to that precision. Match the final rounding to the reliability of the source measurement and the needs of your report. USGS conversion references commonly show the practical rounded factor 0.4047 hectare per acre; its conversion factors table is useful when a four-decimal factor is sufficient.
