This tool converts a cat's body weight into a simple diphenhydramine estimate using the reference model of 1 milligram per pound. It then translates the same milligram amount into a liquid volume and a tablet fraction based on the strengths you enter. It is useful for checking arithmetic after a veterinarian has already told you that plain diphenhydramine is appropriate. It does not diagnose an allergy, decide whether the drug is suitable, select a dosing interval, account for kidney or liver disease, screen drug interactions, or replace an examination.
When to use it

How to calculate
- Select Pounds or Kilograms. Changing the unit converts the current weight rather than merely relabeling it.
- Enter Cat weight as a positive decimal. The calculator accepts a period as the decimal separator and rejects scientific notation, commas, words, zero, and negative values.
- Enter the exact Liquid concentration in milligrams per 5 milliliters. The common example is 12.5 mg / 5 mL, but the package label and your veterinarian are authoritative.
- Enter the Tablet strength in milligrams per tablet. The result is an arithmetic fraction only; do not assume a tablet may be split accurately or safely.

Input guide
Cat weight is required and must be greater than zero. In pounds, 10 is a realistic example; in kilograms, the same cat is about 4.54. A higher weight increases every dose equivalent proportionally. A frequent error is entering kilograms while the pounds mode is active. Liquid concentration is also required and is entered as mg per 5 mL; 12.5 means 12.5 mg in 5 mL. A stronger liquid produces a smaller volume for the same milligram amount. Never use a multi-symptom product or one containing a decongestant. Tablet strength is required in mg per tablet; 25 is a common arithmetic example. A stronger tablet lowers the calculated tablet fraction, but the calculator does not verify whether the dosage form is splittable.
Output guide
Estimated diphenhydramine amount is the weight-based result in milligrams. Liquid volume is the milliliters needed to contain that amount at the entered concentration. Worked example
For a 10 lb cat, the model calculates 10 lb × 1 mg/lb = 10.00 mg. A liquid labeled 12.5 mg / 5 mL contains 2.5 mg/mL, so 10 mg ÷ 2.5 mg/mL = 4.00 mL. With a 25 mg tablet, 10 mg ÷ 25 mg/tablet = 0.40 tablet. These exact values appear in the result cards, detail table, and workbook.
